That sounds like a terrible experience and I can empathize with what you must be feeling. By way of advice though, all I can say is there are no doctors on the internet and you should talk to your doctor about your concerns. Besides being a doctor, they know you and your case.

Yeah, it wasn't great, lol! Hadn't had a low like that in a very long time.
I have spoken to my eye dr about dropping a1c and the risks behind it and she's heard of it, but can't confirm any hard evidence behind it. I'm definitely informing my diabetes dr tomorrow, though. I just hope I don't get a repeat tonight.

Having to be the link between different rl specialists is also a headache. I hope you get it figured out.

Hi also diabetic, had a retinal detachment and several surgeries to clear out hemorrhages My retinal surgeon gave me this advice too, correct my sugars slowly over time and not to crash to quickly as it affects the blood vessels and the fluctuations can make them burst. All the best.

Totally blind and take my own blood and glucose readings. Not to sound gross but you just may have to make or squeeze out more blood.
You may have to fight insurance but I use the prodigy meter. I heard next contour 1 is also great.
blazblu821 points11m ago
That's the meter I currently use.
I haven't had a low like that since my DX with advanced retinopathy and since I have vision in one eye (and it's not great), it was quite startling watching my world slowly fade out. My vision was so blurry, I couldn't tell the difference between the blood and my finger. I just got lucky with the whole process.

I am totally blind and use vision and knowing what is going on train yourself to do it totally blind.

"but also in addition to that a 2 second google..."
Never understood why ppl add this to their post. Makes them look condescending.
I really wasn't looking for advice, just sharing an experience.

For one, I never said I was fully blind. Just that my low blood sugar was having a negative effect on my vision that I never experienced before. Secondly, I flagged my thread as a Blog. I was simply sharing an experience and never asked for advice.
Not sure why you're getting all bent out of shape. It's my choice to accept or decline volunteered information. I'm being civil about this, why can't you?

Definitely talk to a doctor instead of listening to random strangers on the internet for medical advice.
Diabetes usually causes damage to the retina over longer periods of time. I personally haven't heard of anyone losing their vision due to big drop over a short period of time, although that could be something I am just unaware of. Have you seen an eye doctor yet? Dark spots can be a symptom of retina detachment.
Is it Jardiance or Ozempic by any chance? I know both of those can cause lower sugar levels, although I was told the chances are rare.
blazblu821 points11m ago
To be fair, I didn't make this post seeking medical advice, hence the blog flair. I've been on this subreddit for several months now.
I started ozempic 3 weeks ago and my blood sugar has been an unpredictable rollercoaster, lol!
KillerLag1 points11m ago
No prob, just wanted to give you a heads up. At least once a month, a client of mine would say they "got some advice on the internet" for some kind of treatment or something else. Of which many were scams or something worse.
Yeah, my wife has that same issue with Ozempic for a bit. It eventually evened out
blazblu821 points11m ago
I see, no worries.
I sure hope it does. I'm liking the rapid drop in a1c, but dealing with a 44 right after eating a high carb dinner was not on the menu last night, lol! Last a1c was 8.4, now down in the low 7's high 6's based on meter averages.
