Anyone blind in one eye that uses a Cane?(self.Blind)

If yes why and does it help? Are you scared of others judging you?

Yep. I have no peripheral vision (also have very limited central vision in my right eye) and no depth perception. It's handy for finding curbs, steps, etc. and it's also handy in a crowd for those around me to know I can't see well.
I used to worry about what people thought. I got over it. Not getting hurt > whatever anyone else thinks.

This is similar to how i feel. When im in crowds I feel nervous I'm going to bump into someone or trip and fall because people arent aware of my blindness. I asked this question mostly for confirmation cause I can see really well out of my left eye but i have no vision in my right eye. I can get around fine most of the time but there are times when i most definetley can not and im walking into things or people. I feel scared people will judge me cause i live in a generally uncrowded area and if i had a cane i imagine it would be folded up most of the time and people would make accusations. Should i look into getting a cane or should I just keep navigating without one?

There's no harm in getting one to see if it's good for you. If you think you would benefit.
>I feel scared people will judge
Excuse my language, but... fuck 'em! Anyone who would judge a person for using a cane isn't someone worth considering in the first place.
At first I was self concious, then I realised that 99.9% of the people on the street I don't know, will probably never know and most likely will never see again. Why should I be concerned with what they think?
I use a guide cane, which is a bit shorter than a long cane that you tap with but longer than an ID cane.
I hold it down in front of me at an angle towards my blind side and its good for making sure I don't walk into door frames, trash bins, other obstacles.
If I'm walking down a corridor I try to keep the wall to my blind side and keep the cane tip running along the bottom of the wall. People take the hint and give you room and it also keeps you straight :)
If you're in the US I'm sure I've seen people mention you can get one for free from the NFB so the most it should cost you is a phone call.
Give it a go!

A fair number of my clients have peripheral field loss, and only one useful eye. Because of the loss of depth perception, the cane is pretty important for them to not trip on things. Especially for stairs that have no contrasting edge.

The older I get the less I tend to care about what other people will think. I'm blind in my left eye and have some usable Vision in my right. I use a cane and it helps me with depth perception and also let people know that I'm visually impaired and to get out of my way. So yeah I use a cane wherever I go now ever since high school.

Well I'm almost completely blind in my left eye, and my central field of vision is almost completely gone in my right. I can get around without a cane on flat, well lit surfaces, but I use a cane when I'm traveling by my self. Mostly I use it to probe things when I'm uncertain and to signal to others that I'm visually impaired.
As far as worrying about being judged, I had that feeling when I first got a cane but it went away pretty quickly. Of course it probably helps that I can't see anyone's gestures or faces when I walk around. But like others say, do what keeps you safe. Fuck everything else.

I have been completely blind in my left eye and from when I was born until 2019, was low vision in my right (6/36 or about 20/180). I began learning the cane as a teenager. Did I care what others thought? Hell no. It helped my confidence so much, helped me feel less anxious and overwhelmed in crowds and around stairs. Because you don't have depth perception when you only have one eye, it's definitely worth it.

I'm totally blind in my right eye so I have low peripheral vision. I've never considered using one but that doesn't matter. If you feel any need for one, absolutely get one and screw what others think. It's an easy way to feel safer and more secure as you move around.

It's not quite what you're asking, but I am legally blind and use an ID cane on rare occasions when it's helpful for others to know or if I need to awkwardly tap my way down some stairs if I can't see well in the environment.
I do worry people judge me for it because I'm clearly not blind. Some especially unkind people will make fun of me thinking I can't see them.
