travelling to Malta (self.Blind)
submitted 2d ago by Aggressive-Yoghurt31
hello! Hello! Me and my girlfriend, both blind, are planning to travel to Malta. we would love to know what to expect in terms of accessibility or how hard is it to get around. Any travelling tips for a blind person in a foreign country are welcome! If we have anyone blind from Malta I'd love to have a chat. Have a nice day you all.

###r/Blind is back up but the struggle goes on. Until we have the same access to Reddit's content as our sighted friends we insist Reddit allows us to use the apps which meet our needs.

I have been there twice so far as a tourist, including last winter. I have limited, but usable vision, so your experience may be different.

The help at the airport was good, upon arrival they walked me all the way to the bus stop, on departure I showed up at the information desk and they lead me to my seat.

It is not the richest country in the world, so don't expect perfection. English is an official language so communication is fairly easy with anyone. They drive on the left side (like in the UK), if you are not used to that it will be weird at first.

If you rely on public transportation there is a very dense bus network, but due to the narrow windy roads expect delays everywhere. The two biggest bus stations are in Valletta and Bugibba, I don't know where is your accommodiation.

If you have any specific question let me know.

That's cool that they took you to the bus station. Is it connected to the airport? The airport I like flying out of is much cheaper than my local airport but is an hour away via amtrak train. I've been having one of my sisters escort me there. But I always got a ride back because I didn't think airline personnel would take me to the train platform. It's an hour 30 minute drive so pretty far. Problem is the train station isn't directly connected to the airport. You gotta take an airtrain after the train to get to the terminals.

Malta has a quite small airport - well, the whole population is like half million, so no need for anything crazy big. The bus stop is in front of the terminal building.
