I am interested but I fear the impatience and judgement of classmates that would have to be paired up with me.

###r/Blind is back up but the struggle goes on. Until we have the same access to Reddit's content as our sighted friends we insist Reddit allows us to use the apps which meet our needs.

They will start you in ju jitsu which is all contact. It's great for the blind. It's wrestling with more techniques. You might take kick boxing before or at the same time depending on your fitness.

Our blind son was in jujitsu the program and people were great. The teacher said sight didn't matter because his tests would be blindfolded anyway, and that was true for all students.

If you go to a school and they aren't promoting good sportsmanship and discipline, then go find a new dojo. Because martial arts is about success not failure and discrimination is failure.

I actually went to a sports camp for blind/VI kids and we did judo, wrestling, swimming, goalball, and track and field. I think they chose those sports because they know you could do them. I'm VI, and I have trouble with a lot of sports because of vision, but I found wrestling and judo were okay because it's close proximity. And then I took kickboxing as an adult and also felt it was good. If you have some vision to see closely or are adept at passive echolocation (here I'm more guessing), I think it would be okay. It could also help you develop that kind of awareness of someone moving around you like that.

Another idea if you can swing it, is to do a private lesson first, see how that feels and speak with the instructor about your concerns. They may have ideas.
