Online dating (self.Blind)

Have you ever been on a dating site or app? How was your experience?

Did you mention your visual impairment in your profile? If not, when did you tell your potential "match"?

I would love to hear about your experiences and/or receive some tips!

###r/Blind is back up but the struggle goes on. Until we have the same access to Reddit's content as our sighted friends we insist Reddit allows us to use the apps which meet our needs.

Not blind, but my bf of 4 years is. We met on Tinder. His profile included a joke that was something along the lines of "giving a whole new meaning to blind date." And honestly, that was a big draw to me, as I love a good dad joke and a sense of humor is important to me.

I had an online dating profile for quite some time before losing all my sight, have always been upfront about my disability since I consider doing otherwise a form of deception, and never had any matches despite living a totally independent life without any special adaptations other than living at walking distance from my workplace. The possibility of going totally blind, which ended up actually happening, was enough to scare people away, so now that I'm sightless I don't even bother trying.

I'm not saying it's impossible to find a match, as evidenced by the fact that some disabled people are in relationships, but it's definitely much harder than it is for able people. Combine that difficulty with my total inaptitude to deal with people, and you get the perfect recipe to being forever alone.

Yeah, I did it with great success. By the time I matched with who is now my current five-year girlfriend, I had around 90 matches. I was very upfront about my disability.

I have one. I have it in my profile that I am vision impaired. I’ve had mixed reactions to it. I’ve been on two dates with people that know about it and they didn’t care. It didn’t work out for other reasons. And I’ve been on dates with people that I knew before I lost my eyesight, and they didn’t care either. I think the main thing for people not wanting to date me is because I can no longer drive and for some reason a lot of people where I’m at have a thing about not wanting to drive someone around all the time. But I let people know upfront. I am independent and don’t need much assistance for anything. be patient it’s definitely harder when you have some kind of disability but when it happens, it’ll happen when you least expect it
