Water, water everywhere (self.books)

There was a lot to drink from the book Covenant of Water by Abraham Varghese. The ending was stunning and unexpected. After a long time, a book comes along that really dives deep and takes you on a remarkable journey. I loved how the history and culture of St. Thomas christians were depicted as well as the ancient family 'tharavad' / ancestral homes.

The women were depicted powerfully and in depth. Elsie the artist, Big Ammachi the matriarch and Mariamma the grand daughter. All are epic. The disease of leprosy that was almost forgotten is explained here at great length.

I learnt a lot about diseases and medical stuff that I normally have little interest in. Somehow Abraham Varghese, a doctor creates a world that is mesmerizing. I loved how there isn't cynicism in his writing but so much of love, compassion and realism.

What did you all think of it ...those if who read it ?

Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.
