My understanding of snot is that it helps get germs out of our bodies, does phlegm have the same purpose?

Yup, exact same reason. It catches germs and vatious debris and removes them from the lungs. Swallowing it then kills the germs that are exposed to your stomach acid.

Ew really I never thought about what would happened when u swallow it. That jus added a whole new layer of interest and yuck to the mix. Ok follow up question what the purpose of the phlegm caused by asthma, as asthma isn’t germ related, so why does it caused mucus to build up on the lungs in that situation? 😅

1. You're supposed to swallow it, that is the natural process.

2. Like I said it removes debris like dust and pollen too. Asthma is caused by an overreaction to these debris so that's what the body thinks it's reacting too, but really it's just going way overboard.
