Lately I've been reading "The synaptic self", by Joseph LeDoux, and some of Damasio's work. I've really enjoyed the reading (LeDoux more than Damasio) and I was looking for similar books on the topic (layman sort of books). Does /r/neuroscience have a suggestion for me??
Thankss

A book that I found particularly interesting is Consilience by EO Wilson. It is not focussed on neuroscience, but does include elements of it. Why it is particularity interesting is that it binds neuroscience into other fields to show how the systems interact.
For example, he shows how the development of retinal systems that have evolved to favour the rapid recognition of the movements of snakes, result in representation of snakes in different cultural artefacts.
Really interesting book!

That sounds extremely interesting. When I finish with the strictly neurological stuff I'll give it a try. Thanks!

This is quite a good read if you are looking for layman stuff.

I've been looking into that, actually. It's definitely on my "to-read" list. Thanks!

This is more a textbook than a light read, but it's by far the best "intro" sort of neuroscience text I've come across. Very readable, and strikes a good balance between simplicity and complexity. http://www.amazon.com/Biological-Psychology-James-W-Kalat/dp/0495603007/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1302796831&sr=1-2
