Ukraine war: Two dead after 'attack' on Crimea bridge (bbc.com)

I have to wonder why people would choose to vacation in a war zone? Were there Americans taking family vacations to Iraq during their invasion?
whiteb8917 62 points 3h ago
Because Russian state media is pushing the narrative that the War, Sorry Special operation, is going swimmingly.

What makes me laugh, given the bridge is attacked again, they are recommending people resort to using more land based routes through "Newly aquired Russian Territory", in other words, a WAR ZONE, sorry again, Special Operation.

Ye, this is going to keep happening. They would need to change their narrative to stop people from going. Heck, they've been selling stolen Ukrainian properties on the open market for some time now. There's Russians that think they own seaside properties in Ukraine.
doctorkanefsky 22 points 2h ago
They are trying to promote the permanent settlement of Russians in sovereign Ukrainian territory to displace the rightful Ukrainian owners of said territory. It is part of the genocidal attempt to erase Ukrainian culture and society in the occupied territories.

It's the American method of Colonialism-ethnic cleansing through dilution (American Indians, Hawaii, etc). China has been doing the same in Tibet, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, etc. The Colonial era never ended and I doubt we will progress much as a species until it does.

I get what you’re trying to say, but Americans going on vacation in Iraq is kind of a wildly different thing than Russians going on vacation in Crimea.

I think after a while they become numb to it. At some point you to recover some semblance of your previous life or you’ll go nuts

Because it couldn’t.

The coalition consisted of several major economic powers, and the US alone was and still is a global hard power, issuing sanctions would do little damage to the US, force it to leverage her own soft power and would ultimately cause damage to the country doing the sanctioning. Russia sanctioning the US is like a child picking a fight with Godzilla, Godzilla wouldn’t likely notice, and the end result is a flattened child.

Russia by comparison has nowhere near the same leverage or power and the Ruble isn’t a global trading standard.

Why exactly is attacked quoted? There's no question Ukraine used military assets in a military operation of damage or destroy a target, ie an attack.

Typically they use quotation marks in headlines to indicate a quotation.
N8CCRG 5 points 1h ago
Next you're going to tell us that a question mark is used when someone asks a question.

I really don't get how so many on reddit have no clue what quotation marks are *actually* for. They think they can only be used as scare quotes.

Most of us went to impoverished American schools. We're lucky to know how to read and write.

I wonder what happened to that dumbfuck who didn't wear a seat belt and got yeeted halfway through the windscreen.

That picture/video is exactly why seatbelts should always be worn in a vehicle.
xvpower 27 points 3h ago
That was a teenage girl, she lived but both her parents died they had seatbelts on.
outerproduct 4 points 2h ago
I don't think seatbelts were meant to protect against bombs.
xvpower 12 points 2h ago
That's great I'm replying to the original poster who saw the aftermath. The car was thrown into a guardrail from the explosion and that's what killed them.

I'd recommend checking out how to fix sentences with ambiguous pronouns.
pinetreesgreen 1 points 50m ago
The car didn't get bombed, it hit something, like a regular car accident. Looking at the video, I don't think her parents were buckled in, where did you get that information? Bodies were crumpled in the front/back of the car like they were thrown forward, not in seats.
