Seriously?! How long… (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Coffee_notes
How long does it take for the newness to wear off? So that you don't feel like you're losing your mind or taking too long to do everything. And at what point do you feel like things slow down enough for you to know how many people are on the floor and what play you're running. I know my roles change based on how many people are on the floor, but I'm still in tunnel vision mode!

I can't tell if my store is having training issues, or if I'm just extra new. I've been here seven weeks and just had plays explained to me two weeks ago other than in passing

Edit: plays

I am now in almost 6 months, and I have to say... it DOES get better! Hang in there and know it passes, you absorb more and more... and the other day I ran DT, DTO, expedited and ran a bit of DT bar!

I've heard six months. As a green bean I am just getting into the swing of things but still struggle after three months.

I've always heard around 6 months is when you really begin to feel confident in what you are doing on the floor.

When to ask for DT backup? How to speed up DT times. And Primary vs secondary roles...

I'm always busy, and running from one place to another but always seem to be forgetting something, food, POS, stickers, customers. Ack. So ready to be past new-ness!

Usually 4:30-5:00 is good.
pastry case, repeatables, stocking

Once DT starts hitting hard about 5:30, it starts to get difficult to manage.

Once its 6:30, and I've had my first break I don't even look up until someone relieves me at 8:00 to switch to POS. Its all a blur from then to 9:30 when I'm off, and someone usually says "you'll get better, give it time"

For the DT just relax. It's my 3rd month and I'm trying to move up. You have to have the mindset that you want to be the best. Try multitasking, if someone is ordering a pastry go and put it in while they are still ordering. Repeating the order after they say it makes it easier so you can multi task while being efficient. I also find it helpful to grab the cups before you sticker them(assuming you do) as in when they say venti iced blah blah you put it out in front of you so you're ready to go! I was terrible my first two weeks but I promise it gets better. Don't dwell on what you're doing wrong, just keep working
