Told to clock in later than scheduled, is it legal? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Grimm_Memento
This has happened three times now. I was scheduled at 6:30 am and showed up five minutes early, as usual, before my shift had started. Then my manager tells me not to clock in until 6:45 because they're a bit slow that day. So I end up just sitting there, unpaid, wishing I had at least gotten fifteen more minutes of sleep. She has done this three times now (all the same shift time) and apparently I'm not the only barista in the store she has done this to. Is this legal? And should I talk to her about it? She's a great manager but I feel like our terrible DM is forcing her to do things like this.

I would put your foot down and just clock in anyways. If you scheduled at 6:30 and you show up earlier or at 6:30, clock in at 6:30.

Your manager is allowed to ask if you would like to start 15 minutes later, and you are allowed to reject or accept. I suggest you reject and say that you want to clock in and start now because you are already here. They're not allowed to tell you no.

I work in human resources in addition to being a partner. it is actually illegal to be asked to clock in later than your scheduled time. you have to clock in at your scheduled time.

Yeah stop being a bitch dude . My manger is always giving me shit for not setting up the pastry case up the way she wants it , even though I put it PERFECT every god dam time , plus I always open and I'm like the only one is knows it by heart . I just stopped caring cause it's never perfect for her no matter what .
