I'm a fairly new barista, and before I started, I went over my potential schedule with the store manager. I was supposedly specifically hired to work small opening shifts; my manager told me that RARELY would he veer from the schedule, and only if he absolutely had to. He mentioned that no one gets large shifts unless they ask for it.
* I'm getting 6-8 hour shifts that vary between morning and afternoon each week, and the short opening shifts are listed as Open Shifts on the schedule.
* No one follows standards- no hand washing, leaving milk out for hours, not following dress code, et cetera.
* Most of the staff are actually quite rude to customers.
* The manager took no part in my training and is now coming up behind me as I do stuff to reprimand me for doing it the way my apathetic trainer showed me to do things. (I don't know any better!)
* The other baristas get really hostile during peak hours; one had an embarrassingly loud argument with our shift lead right behind the POS in plain sight yesterday. Someone at the bar actually got nasty with a customer when she asked for a remake because she couldn't taste the coffee in her drink (we had no line, for the record).
I should mention that I have absolutely no personal problems with anyone in the store, they've all been nice to me, except for the occasional snap when I ask a question during busy times.
I have my own steady income already, but took on this job because I thought it would be a fun way to earn extra money by working four hours a day. Overall, though, I'm really disappointed with my experience here.
I don't want to quit, nor do I want to make a mountain out of a molehill. Do you think it's worth talking to my manager about my schedule?
Better question: Anyone have tips on dealing with a store full of people who just DGAF?
**tl;dr:** Hired for AM, scheduled for PM, manager is in la la land, coworkers give no f***s, confused on how to react.
