Can I be fired for being late to a shift I didn't work? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by highkeyjerk
I just got this job a month ago and managed to have the worst luck all month. I got sick several times and this weekend I was late to a shift. I called the wrong Starbucks to let them know I'd be 15min late so I showed up and my supervisor was annoyed for not calling but sent me home anyway because I was still sick. It took me days to realize I called the wrong store.
I just got a call from my store manager and she wants me to come in on my day off to talk to her about my attendance. I'm so afraid she's going to fire me and I feel like she has been searching for a reason to do so. Any advice on how to handle this?

Hi, I’ve been with the company for 3 years and am a Shift Supervisor as well.

I would be incredibly surprised if you were fired. Simply be honest and reinforce that you want to continue to work there. Show you manager that you are committed and dedicated. Life gets in the way sometimes, he/she should understand.

You may get written up, but don’t sweat it, it doesn’t mean a whole lot unless it becomes a common thing. It’s actually pretty difficult to be fired from Starbucks, so don’t work yourself up over it too much.

On a side note, a word of advice to new baristas:
Show up to your shifts ready to work. Always stay busy. Ask people what you can help with. This job is very much team-oriented. You want to become someone that people enjoy working with and that they can rely on. It can be taxing at times but can also be incredibly gratifying.

Hope this helps, good luck to you.

Wow. I’m speechless. Sorry you had a bad experience with the company. Glad to see you’re not too down about it though.

They actually let you go?

I mean, I got written up my third week for "asking too many questions" and not having my partner numbers memorized. I think they were just looking for a reason to fire me. Oh well lol
