If its at the register and you order something else, I'm glad to get people water! Coffee can sometimes make you thirsty and everyone needs to hydrate!
However, I do think its a little rude when people either
1) don't order anything else and just ask for water, then sit in the store for hours
2) ask for water at hand off when we're clearly very busy

other than that, its a perfectly reasonable request :)

Here at our store in England Hexham, we actually take a lot of people ina be offer water ice and more. Just to ensure our customers and patrons are well looked after. We believe in the kindness of he human spirit. If one person gets a good day out of us, then they could bring many more to boost our store. :)

You can ask me while there are 15 drinks on the bar and I'd still gladly get you water with a smile on my face, BUT I think it's still important how you go about asking for it. We used to get a girl who always rudely asks for water at the hand-off and she would have a plastic bag of water bottles that she wants us to fill up for her. We'd stand there awkwardly filling up all her water bottles one by one while the drinks are piling up on the bar. After some time, she started helping herself and we also noticed that she was stealing our toilet paper and paper towels. I don't think she was homeless; just someone extremely frugal who tried to abuse our kindness and take advantage of the store's resources which conveniently happened to be at her disposal.

As long as you order it at the register, I don’t care at all! It’s the people that ask for it while I’m in a middle of another transaction, or doing food, etc.

I think it’s better to take advantage of the free waters we give you than buying a three dollar bottle of water.

I think it's a new hack. Most ask for ventis, not just can i get a water, sure tall water coming up. 20 oz or 30 oz, come peeps!
