Put in application, haven’t heard anything. Should I call/go in? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by verapamil12
I put in an application about a month ago to 2 locations nearby and haven’t heard anything. I know the positions are still open and while I’m not experienced in barista-ing, I have a solid work history and can’t think of a reason I wouldn’t even get an interview.
Is it acceptable to either call the store and ask a manager “what’s up?” (in a polite, business tone of course) or go in (in the middle of the day when I assume it will be slow) and ask to talk to a manager to ask the same question? Should I just wait another month and reapply (I’d rather just get it done the 1st Time)?

Thanks for any help or info!

For all of those who have put in an application and are wondering why you haven't heard back: As a Store Manager, the number one reason why I will not contact a candidate for an interview is their availability does not meet the store needs. If I am looking for a closer who is available nights and weekends, then I'm not calling back the person who is only available weekday mornings, no matter how strong their application is.

So when you go in to talk to the managers of the stores you have applied for, ask them what they are looking for availability wise. Do they need openers, closer's, weekenders, all the above? See if the times they need match what you have on your application. If not, talk about how you could fit in to their stores needs with the availability that you have. Hope that helps, good luck.

Thank you for that info. You, being a manager, is kinda exactly who I hoped would respond.

My availability is 100% open. I marked every box for time available so I don’t think that is the reason. I’m mostly concerned that I haven’t been in a retail setting in 10+ years and that’s why they’re not calling. I’ve been a pharmacy tech (not for Walgreens/cvs type places where you see customers, I worked in the lab and only saw other employees) for that time so I know it’s obviously very different but I know I would be a good fit. I wrote a nice cover letter kind of explaining why I would like to go from one to the other.

Im planning to go in today and see if I can talk to a manager at least 1 of the stores I applied at. Maybe seeing that I’m more than an online application will help.
Thanks for your insight 😃

Its always good to reach out while applying for any job. In my opinion, if it's not busy, ask to see the manager, its a better impression than a phone call. If they are hiring because they need help, he/she would probably like to see you're that interested in working for them.

That’s what I was thinking and that’s what I have done for previous jobs but they were never in retail like that and I didn’t want to be a pain. Thanks for reaffirming that I should. I’ll head in tomorrow. 😊

Best of luck! It's a great company to work for.

That’s what I’ve heard. I’m looking to go back to school and it seems like it would be a great place to work while I do that. And the employees there always seem happy and like they’re having fun while working.
