Transfer after 4 months? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by doggomommo96
Howdy partners, I'm a newer barista and I may need to transfer only after 4 months after being hired. The transfer is for no bad reason, I simply may be moving into the house of my dreams with my boyfriend and it would make me about 30-35 minutes away from my store and I open at least twice a week. I don't know if I could keep that up. Plus, I know that there is a store located on every corner so I could easily be to work in half the time if I transferred. How difficult is it to transfer? And how long do you have to work for the company before you can? I qualified for the SCAP program for my ASU tuition to be covered... would a transfer effect my eligibility? Thank you.

I transferred starbucks after about 4 months working with the company. The only reason was because I wanted to be at a different starbucks, I hated where I had been originally placed. My manager understood this and the transfer process was completed quite hastily. Your reasons for wanting a transfer are completely valid and it will absolutely not hurt your standing with ASU. Definitely talk to your manager amd get in touch with the store you'd like to transfer to.

Thanks for sharing your story! I really appreciate your insight and your response. I'm just worried I'm not seen as a valuable partner enough because my bar skills are limited and I only occasionally get bar time since I'm new. I don't want it to effect me in gaurenteeing the 20 hours I need a week to keep my ASU scholarship. Do you think it will? Or does Starbucks value all of their partners?

Starbucks definitely values all their partners. As long as you have good work ethic and good attitude, they'll view you as a hard worker. Plus, they don't actually expect you to fully grasp every aspect of the job for six months. With practice comes perfection, so they'll understand that you still need practice. I had no idea you needed 20 hours a week for the ASU thing??? I'm going to be starting with ASU this fall... I never remember being told that. I hope its not the case, because I wanna do less hours so I can get a second job.

Yeah, you must average 280 hours within the first three months when you become benefits eligible and then 20 hours a week after that to maintain your scap scholarship. Call your ASU advisor and ask then for the SBUX info number asap to see if you have enough hours to qualify. I would hate for you to get enrolled in classes and have to wait until the next semester because you were short by x number of hours.

Wow. Well thank you for letting me know, I might have to opt out of this ASU option.
