Paid More For Call Outs? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by EliHyung
I’m the closing shift supervisors and we had a call out and could find no possible coverage. Me and another barista worked 8 hours with no breaks 1pm-9pm because another barista called out, It felt like we were doing double the work, Although we violated, I feel we should get paid an extra hour or some kind of compensation for call outs, What do you guys think?

While it sounds nice, it wouldn’t translate well into reality. I wish I was compensated for the extra work I do but instead you will just end up burning yourself out without any reward.

I recommend not overworking yourself when in such situations because in the end, it’s just coffee. It’s pretty much the only way to keep yourself sane in the long run

At this restaurant i used to work for, if you had a meal violation they would pay you an extra hour. idk if that’s everywhere but that’s what they told us on our training day! it would be nice if it was a rule everywhere...

Wow I was JUST talking about this after our two callouts yesterday. Apparently manager being on vacation=vacation for all who don’t rely on this job for bills. Sending you as much positivity as I can muster.

Omg just had this convo today. My SM just got back from a short 4 day vacation and 2 people called out during that time. SM stopped in today to check in on us today (shes officially back tomorrow) and said the same 2 people have called out when she was on vacation last month.

Its honestly nuts, being expected to get things 100% done with call outs for the same amount of pay you would get without call outs
