Why does Starbucks pay minimum hourly wage to baristas and yet calls us “partners” ? How does that make sense?cant the company afford to pay about two dollars atleast more than minimum wage to motivate us? Views? Thanks.

I was hired at over minimum wage, $9.50/hr.

"partners" comes from us receiving stock in the company. If you're familiar with PA/NJ/MD or like... RI? There's a grocery store chain called Redner's that did the same thing. I used to be a cashier for them.
But I totally wouldn't say no to a dollar or two extra. $15 is a bit much, but $10 or $11 as a barista sounds nice. That 14¢ raise in April was..almost offensive.

The stock option is available only if you work for more than a year I guess. Minimum wage is actually demotivating for the kind of work that’s gotten done by a barista at a busy store.

Oh I totally agree. I have no drive to show up early, stay late, or even pick up extra shifts, because hours were cut at my store for the summer and I'm barely pulling 30 as it is. Walmart pays more than Starbucks does...

Because Starbucks obviously does not care about their employees.

Nice!!

I've been there about 2 months now, so I'm not sure. I'll be getting a bonus after becoming a barista trainer though! I'm excited! I do know we get a raise every quarter at my store

That’s nice! And so wonderful of your manager. Do they increase barista wages ? I joined mid August.
