How to keep your feet from absolutely killing you at work?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by rmramirez
I recently moved and tomorrow is my fourth day working as a barista. About two years ago I gained about 70 pounds and was diagnosed with PCOS. I work really hard to not gain weight but I haven’t worked on my feet since I gained so much weight. After my first 8 hour shift, my feet and legs were KILLING me. I tried wearing different shoes but I don’t know how to keep everything from hurting. Any advice? Or any ideas of the best work shoes?

High quality shoes with moleskin insoles. I wear doc martens. They’re completely worth the price, comfortable, warm, and last forever.

Well the fact that you gained weight and weren’t working on your feet until recently is reason enough to make your feet hurt.
I recommend finding a good pair of shoes that supports your feet and start light exercise to increase your overall strength and endurance.
When I take a break from working and come back my feet and legs always kill me for the first couple days back

I wore my Docs every day, but eventually my feet started to hurt, and they were awful during the break-in period. I had a ton of coworkers who wore Dansko clogs though, and none ever seemed to have issues!

I've tried 5 different types of insoles, 6 pairs of shoes and 2 metatarsal supports. The best insoles are from Amazon for around $18 called Pedag. There is a break in period but smooth sailing after that. Pedag 17947 Holiday 3/4 Leather... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E6OD02?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

If you find a dr scholls kiosk, there’s a thing you step on and it will tell you which part of your feet carries the most weight. That could possibly be helpful for finding the right shoes.

Arch support! Get shoes/insoles with arch support.
Also, make sure you don't lock your knees when you stand straight up
