Should I report this to Partner Services?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by fifthgradelesbian
Earlier today I almost walked off a shift because I had a fellow barista tell me I had an attitude and then called me a racial slur (not for my own race, but point still.)
I did have a minor attitude with him as I was in drive-thru and had to ask repeatedly for him to get off the headset so I could take orders. I also asked him to make certain drinks because he was not paying attention and causing delays in our times.
Then when I was trying to attend to a customer at front POS for a refund, I asked him to cover me for drive thru (twice) and he replied with “n***a I’m leaving” and then told me to stop having an attitude, berated me for being “bossy” as I’m not an SSV, and then told me to “calm down” when I got upset at him for calling me a slur.
Is this something I’d report to my DM or should I take it to Partner Services? My previous manager was fired for using the same slur, so I’m not fire what the process would be.
TL;DR A coworker used a racial slur against me, should I report this? And who would I go to first?

Y'know, at Sbux we're supposed to follow the chain of command: . talk to the offending Partner. If nothing's done, tell SSV. If nothing's done, tell SM. If nothing's done, tell DM, yadda-yadda. Do you really want to wait for something to maybe/maybe not be done? Because that's what happens when you follow the chain of command. We're supposed to 'assume positive intent', but racial slurs? UNACCEPTABLE.

Write an incident report & call it in, then call PSRC (be sure to cite the reference # of the incident report), then tell your SM/show them the incident report.

I’m a new(ish) partner, have only been at my store a year. How do I fill out an incident report? Is it online or over the phone?

1) Go to the BOH computer & search 'Incident Report' on the Partner Hub. Print out a sheet & fill it out.
2) Call the # at the top of the page, and tell them what you wrote on the I.R. They will give you a case #; write that on the top of the page.
3) Call PSRC (Partner Services & Resource Center). The # is located in the front of the Daily Records Book (that big book that you may sometimes write your time punches in). Tell the agent @ PSRC that you called in an I.R., and cite the case #. Your DM will be notified, and then they will notify your SM.

Over the phone. Paper ones are no more.

I had this almost exact scenario happen to me months back. I went to my SM, she had me file a report and she contacted the DM herself. This particular partner was very toxic to the team and after the dm launched an investigation, they no longer have a job. Starbucks has a zero tolerance policy for racial slurs.
My advice: write down the date and approx times these things happened. Go to your SM and tell them what happened and that you have dates and times. Follow procedure.

He did not call you a racial slur, for the record.

If he is not of African American race then I would definitely tell someone about it!

Follow the chain of command.
Tell your shift. Tell your manager. Tell your DM.
If any of them say to call partner resources: call.

Tell him to quit being an asshole. If he doesn’t stop just straight up go report his behavior. I’d personally just call him out, but done people aren’t comfortable with confrontation, so do what you feel is necessary, but yeah dude, you go to work to connect and make a living, not be insulted. If I was treated like shit every day by my fellow partners (customers are a different story) I definitely wouldn’t have stuck around as long as I have. Tl;dr “quit being an asshole before your day gets rekt.”
