Hello, I just have a question/rant about sampling. I was on bar this morning, and in the midst of the rush, a customer came to front and apparently asked for a sample of the juniper latte. The barista on front told me this, but didnt specify who it was for, and I had a lot of drinks to make. So eventually the barista on front made it to help me out, and just did 1 pump of juniper and about 2/3 steamed milk in a short cup. After the barista handed it to me and I found the customer who wanted to try it, they were furious with me, because it didn't have espresso and therefore was "not the actual drink at all". I calmly explained to her that a short latte is about $4 and we don't normally make samples in this size with espresso. She got even more angry, so I queued a shot and was about to put it into her short drink when she told me i was a bad employee and that Starbucks encourages free samples no matter what. Then she said she's in a rush and will definitely be talking to my manager and left. (why would you sample something during peak if you're in a rush?)
Sooo... Do you guys give free samples with espresso in a short cup? We didn't have the sample cups available as quickly (they were in the back) but I still wouldn't have put espresso in it. Espresso is like $2 alone. I've been here about a year and a half and haven't read anything about sampling policy, and honestly if she was nicer about it/we weren't busy I would have gladly done it, but her tone was so condescending, and I honestly don't care enough to let customers walk all over me, this minimum wage job is a means to an end.
