Write up-Promotion (self.starbucksbaristas)

So I was lined up to get promoted to shift. My manager had delayed it due to our store being understaffed. The new schedule came out and I was finally on there for training. The next day, I had to call out of work due to commuting. I suffer from a chronic condition, endometriosis. It’s bad. Its spread to my bowels. Anyways, I’ve told my manager about this as I’ve had to call out about 10 times in a year ( always around my cycle), for legit being sick. Ive been sent home twice. She wrote me up on thanksgiving, citing my irregular call outs and that I wasn’t meeting the attendance standard. She discussed it with our DM and her “hands were tied” about promoting me. She then told me I could either take the day off (training day), or come in and clean. Nothing more. I told her she knew about my disease and I’m legit sick when it happens. I’ve contacted PCC and gotten the paperwork for appealing it. But I feel as though it will get ugly. Backstory: she’s never cared of me. She’s accused me of being a mean girl ( to which I’m not in the least), she’s gotten mad at me for not answering personal questions. She’s told another shift that she didn’t trust me. Ect. I had a feeling she was looking for an out for promoting me. Anyone have this happen to them? I know in my heart I need to transfer. I’m just not going to grow under her and the store is too stressful with all the drama going on.

Some managers are just dicks. My last manager told everyone that she was the victim of me and my actions, when I would defend myself after she started treating me like shit. If the store makes money, the managers actions get overlooked, no matter how wrong they are.

Request a transfer

Yeah, absolutely transfer. Sounds like your SM is super unprofessional (seems like there's a story behind "she’s gotten mad at me for not answering personal questions") and will only continue to get worse if this is going through an appeals process. That said, I would contact your DM about the situation, explain that you have reached the end of your rope and would like to transfer. Your DM is actually the one to sign off on the transfer, not your SM. They also will likely be able to give you a recommendation of a store in the district given your issues with your current SM.

You probably know this, but Starbucks doesn't allow SMs to ask for doctor's notes. That said, it is my assumption that they don't have an issue with a partner offering a doctor's note. It might be worthwhile to get your doctor to write a note explaining your condition to give to the SM of a store you'd like to transfer to, so you can know that you're doing everything completely above board.
