How do I (24F)handle a partner who comes into work sick and gets other partners sick as well? How am I supposed to bring this to my supervisors attention? (self.starbucksbaristas)

So our dearly beloved Becca, for the sake of a name, who is bubbly and very helpful, does some really unhelpful things like coming into work when she knows she is sick.

I get it, our night shifts are hard to cover because we close at 11p and have high volume. However this negates her good intentions when she comes in sick and is complaining about not feeling well. Not only does she insist that she's well enough to work, but 80% of the time she's contagious and we lose people for the following days closing shift because they are sick with whatever she has.

I need an SOS or some kind of peaceful resolution to this, as I myself am now suffering from strep because Becca came into work sick again.

I hear about this all of the time. People who work in food should not go to work when they are sick yet are disciplined when they call out because they are sick. If she can’t get coverage, what is she supposed to do? She should call off, yes, but then managers get pissed off when they are short handed.

I don’t mean Starbucks, only, just in general. It’s so sad that you have to choose between getting others sick or losing your job because you’re sick.

My Boss is really good at finding coverage for us when we are sick, as it is no longer our job to find coverage once we call out sick. It's only our job to find coverage when we have something like a family even or surprise scheduling problem on our side.

Yeah, like I said it sucks to be short handed for one shift, but it sucks to be short handed for even more shifts because she got other partners sick. But, yeah, thanks for letting me know how I should bring this up to my Boss.

She might also be doing it cause she needs the money and cant afford to call our. Make sure she knows about the paid sick time that all partners accrue now.

The point I was trying to make is that some of us there also can't afford to call out sick, but we know that our other partners are in the same boat and respectfully call into work so that we don't get them sick as well as customers.

Next time we work together I'll let her know about the sick time we can get. :) She and I started about the same time so if I've got some sick leave so most definitely will too. Thanks for the information!
