I was wondering if other stores have maximum # of shots we can sell to a customer... My store manager told us we have to sell a 'reasonable amount' and to not sell any more than 10 shots. One morning, 10 minutes after opening, a lady wanted to use her reward (after buying 5 avocado spreads rung up SEPARATELY) on 20 shots of espresso with 36 pumps of chestnut praline. I asked my shift supervisor and she told me the most I could sell was 10. The customer ended up buying 10 shots with 16 pumps of chestnut praline.. then asked for 10 more pumps after tasting it lol.... Just wondering if other stores have the same rule

Do you get a lot of orders like this from customers using rewards? I think it’s funny, this is something I’ve never had happen, so I’ve never had to look for clarification on it.
The closest I’ve ever come was a customer came in and ordered a venti with 6 pumps caramel and 6 pumps mocha, then asked us to fill it to the top with espresso. He sat down, drank it. Came up and ordered a second one. He did this everyday for about a week, then I never saw him again. I can only assume his heart gave out.

I'm kind of new still, just about hitting my 90 but from my training I was told that shots die and that syrups won't save them. So this guy was drinking a Venti full of dead shots and syrups?

I'm pretty sure it's a lie and they only tell you that to work faster. But the taste changes after a couple minutes.

Yeah, I’d say the taste does change slightly over time, especially if you let them cool down, but to say that shots “die” after a certain time i find silly since I drink espresso straight, but I’m also not gonna meekly sip espresso so slow that it’ll cool down.
The concept of dead shots comes from 8 or 9 years ago, maybe more? It was commonplace to steam enough milk for two or three drinks (we had huge steaming pitchers), and pull shots while you were waiting for the milk to finish, setting up the drinks as you went. Then topping up each cup and finishing the drink. This lead to many problems and drink quality seriously suffered, the idea that “shots die” makes sure that you are pulling shots only for the drink you’re immediately making, and overall is a good thing.

Official "guideline" is no more than 8 per drink, but we are also told by corporate that if they ask for just "make the moment right" 😑. So basically, no there is no limit.

We have a customer who comes in and orders a Venti Latte with 14 shots of espresso and 2 pumps sugar free cinnamon dolce and he always uses his free reward for that

I just really wish people would take a moment to actually understand what they are putting in their bodies

we don’t have that rule lol a guy came in and got 2 venti americanos with 11 blonde shots each the other day
kmatchka [OP]3 points4y ago
omg! that's crazy lol, how many shots fit in it? And no this was my first time a customer asked for anything like this, I told a few of my coworkers and they never had that happen either
Altair8800A_Builder3 points4y ago
Did it all fit in a venti cup? And manager approved for just one reward ? Wow
SammyJ521 points4y ago
Had one of our regulars come in to use a reward, keep in mind he was going on a road trip and didnt want to stop anywhere on the way. He came in early on a slow day and asked how many shots we could fit in a trenta cup, we assumed 30 so thats what he got. 30 SHOTS OF ESPRESSO, took a little over 10 minutes to pull all 30 shots.

I’ve had to make a 14, an 18, and a 25 shot (separate occasions, different customers) and honestly no one has told me otherwise on a limit. Usually on a mobile order I’ll just follow what I’m given. If they’re willing to pay that much, give em. And if it’s a reward? Hey. Starbucks said any drink any size!
snidejenner1 points4y ago
Uhm what? If someone wants 30 shots unless its during peak and bc it will take up a machine for a while I dont see why your manager wouldn't sell it
BoringBrittany1 points4y ago
We have a guy come in everyday and gets 10 shots with no syrup. It’s really gross.
AMossyHemp1 points4y ago
Definitely have made a mobile order with 18 shots and 18 pumps of white mocha. But they didn’t event get it all because it wouldn’t fit in a venti cup.
