Question about standards: beans at night!?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by caramel-twizzle
Hi!
Wondering about standards here, are the hopper beans allowed to stay in all night or do they need to be removed?
Thank you
EDIT: Thank you for all the reply’s, I asked my manager and she contacted other managers! It is standard to empty at night because of the oils! It ruins the machines. I appreciate the responses.
Have a good day.

Empty the hoppers at the end of the night. Don’t skip this. Ever notice how the regular espresso beans are oily? When it sits over night that oil can drain down into the machine and over time can cause problems, like lots of problems. This is how it was explained to my store after we had both our machines breaking down daily for almost a month, during holiday. It’s not worth saving five minutes at the end of the night. Empty the hoppers.

This. Obviously anecdotal evidence here.....but when my store was leaving beans in the hopper overnight, we would be calling in our espresso machines at least once every two weeks or so. Since switching to storing the beans in cubes and leaving the hoppers empty, the amount of maintenance calls for our machines has gone way down. We call them in maybe once every two months now.

We store espresso beans in cubes, blonde and decaf in tea pitchers for overnight

Is that a thing every store is mandatory to do every night?

Not sure ? Our store always did it this way and I’ve never closed at other stores so I wouldn’t know

I've never heard of emptying the hoppers. We've always left them in.

I’ve never closed, but the beans are always in containers when I come in to open!

Did you work central and walnut tonight?

my store leaves them in the machine at all times unless we’re cleaning the hoppers
