As a customer i am here to solely thank the baristas and mostly the green beans (self.starbucksbaristas)

I dont know how you all do it. I sub to this Reddit as a customer and im reading things that make an unhealthy working environment. Ie. “You are not part of the community until you cry in the bathroom”

What ever happened to
“Do you need help with this drink?”
Or “you look like you could use a short break here ill take over for a bit?” Or maybe even “that new hire today looks like she was struggling today lets help her practice/study the drinks”

The starbucks higher ups has manifested so much negativity into the working environment that new hires just feed off of competition and back stabs. This system is run through fear. Fear of not passing surprise visits from shifts or DMs.

Starbucks is a corporate and i’ll assume an unfair one as it partly runs of capitalism. If corporates are torturing their employees, than it is your job to be kind. It is by moral law for everyone to be kind however unfortunately not all follow that rule.

So when next time a green bean screws up a drink dont make them drink it, instead say “that’s alright we can fix it for you” and make them watch you do it right.
The next time a karen walks in the store and orders a drink with 32 scoops of matcha, smile and say thank for coming. And once she leaves go to the back of the store with your co workers and laugh or gossip about it.
The next time there is someone you work with that has a strange habit or appearance maybe just fucking ask them about it. Instead of “hey Ben look Jen has ticks”(proceeds to mock the ticks) or “hey John today i had to train a green bean and they spilled the entire thing of caramel sauce so i made them get on their knees and cleaned that shit up in the middle of a rush.” I dont know much about the daily life of a starbucks employee but how much nicer would this sound. “I had a great day today john i trained a green bean and when they spilled an entire thing of caramel sauce i cleaned it up with them and we got more sales”

As for treating your customers maybe the Adam who names his order an Adam is proud that he discovered something he enjoys. Or the Molly who ordered her drink extra hot and got it cold was rushing to an important meeting but woke up late an had a bad morning. Or the grown man who orders a disgusting ass drink just really likes the taste. Let your customers like what they like. And you can like their money with a smile.

Anyways i just came here to say thank you. Thank you for every barista. That wakes up hoping to clock in on time. Thank you to every barista that has ever served me. Thank you to every barista that endures the teasing that happens in an adult environment. And should only stay in a 6year old play ground or elementary school. Please change how you go and act at work or quit if you cant afford to quit than i sure as Hell know you can afford to be kind. I dont care who you are. Or what youve been through. Anyone can afford to be kind. Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. And that is why im thanking you as a barista. Keep your head up all :)

And we thank you! Personally, I've found night crew to be so much kinder and helpful when it comes to green beans (me) but when it comes to big chains like this, people who don't give a shit tend to be majority. I worked at Chickfila for two years before this and I dreaded every single shift there because we had such terrible leadership. "Oh my Chickfila was bad?" Terrible. And they aren't all bad, but when you're hiring for a big chain, the shitty people take majority.

But again, thank you. I hope the green beans from your favorite store see your post :)

I've got a good amount of friends who work at Chickfila, always complaining about the administration picking favorites. They can't speak up because all five of the local chickfilas are owned by the same person so there isnt really anyone to go to

I am glad that i can afford to work elsewhere, and i hope you are one to genuinely guide others who struggle more at your shop even if they have more experienced. Struggle is a spectrum and spectrums have involuntary ranges. And i hope you remember that even if you are the only one who is kind in your shop, it makes a big difference. One kind green bean is better than no kind workers.

Night shift is so much better for green beans than a morning shift, especially not one on a weekend
comicblops [OP] 3 points 4y ago
One should not be forced to avoid a shift to work to a nicer shift. You are all accountable for how you treat someone green bean or not. Its much easier to say “here let me help you with that” than “how many times do i have to tell you to do it right” kindness should not be something someone should have to go seeking for in an adult working environment. It should already be there. Its not hard to. Just be kind.
