I think this year the focus is on craft and connection so while your drink skills are v important you should also consider brushing up on your customer connections, and how to create memorable moments between you and customers!

Instant coffee in a bit of water and microwaved milk work just fine for practice! Unless you do plan on using an espresso machine and a milk frother after the competition I wouldn’t go out spending that kind of money.
