Meal break question (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by bubs1996
Hey guys, I work at a store in California, so I've been looking at the labor laws regarding breaks. I'm working a looong overtime shift to cover someone today, so probably at least 8am - 8pm. I'm wondering, do I get a second 30 for this shift? I've done this before, worked a shift over 10 hours, and the ssv told me I only get 1, but from what I've been reading, the law gives me a second unpaid 30 if I work over 10 hours. Anybody know the specific labor laws in california, and how Starbucks goes about this? Cheers

Yeah you get 2-30 min lunch breaks. One before the 5 hour mark and one after the 8 hour mark.

Im in Texas but the labor laws should be the same. It’s when your over 6 hours here you get a lunch. So when I sometimes work 12 hour shifts I get two lunches. If you have a ten hour shift you should be getting two ten minute breaks and a lunch. I hope this helps.

Pull out the store manual if the save disagrees with you it will be in that book and you should have access to it

I’m in Massachusetts and I get 2 - 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute unpaid break for an 8 hour shift
