tips and taxes? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ilyasbf
Hi! I'm a green bean and I just found out that we get tips.

So how do I go about this legally? Do I just write down the amount I get every Tuesday and add it up for taxes? Does the amount you get change based on your hours (I really hope it does bc I was only scheduled for like 2 days last week and I feel shitty getting a share of the tips) and if it does do you just calculate based on an average? If you're reporting your job to the state do you add them to your income or list them separately? help pls id really like to not go to jail

it is automatically reported. my W2 listed it and there is no work we have to do about it.

You get tips based on how many hours you work. More hours = more money.

(What I was told when I was a barista)Starbucks automatically reports that you get a certain amount in tips weekly. It’s going to be less that what you actually make in tips and you can report what you actually make but I’ve never heard of someone actually doing that. I wouldn’t even know how to go about it.

It’s entered into the system. Total tips divided by total hours worked that week. Each partner gets as many “shares” as the hours they worked.

That’s how it shows up on your tax forms... it’s automatically shared.
