my manager is making it difficult to come to work, even though I love working here. // rant (self.starbucksbaristas)

So I, and nearly twenty other people, have been training at a new starbucks for almost a month straight and finally we're open. Our managers seem like they're at their wits ends, but it's starting to take a toll on all of us employees. I know they're stressed because all of our food expires today/tomorrow, but it's hard to want to work for them. Earlier today a woman came in asking for three tall mochas, decaf, extra hot, no whip, with raspberry. Okay, cool. I tripped up at first because a) I just got back from live training in a kiosk, not a store. b) it was intimidating working under our actual managers once again. c) everyone's grumpy and upset due to personal issues as well as store problems.

I barely survive three hours today. I burnt myself with hot coffee, broke a fucking canister, didn't know where half the shit was and pissed people off due to it, and I thought I was about to get talked to in private because my manager came up behind me while changing sanitization stuff when in reality she was on the phone. I don't really want to go back to the store and genuinely miss working in a kiosk where you're closer and the people are friendlier.

Once again, I know everyone's stressed, but is there any way I can try and make everything smoother and easier for everyone involved ? No one's really having a good time.

I opened a sotre over a year ago and it is stressful at first but it gets better! Hang in there, it will smooth over.

Honestly. It’s hard opening a store. It’s very high-stress especially for managers. You will progress at your job, and your managers will decompress once that happens. It is a total learning curve and you should be proud of yourself for not accidentally burning the place down yet. Give it some time and leave it at the door when you leave. Let work life stay at work and not reflect on every other aspect of your life. Good luck!

Source: opened the store that I currently work at 5 years ago as a green bean.

thank you for this <3 sometimes it's hard to remember to leave work at work, especially when lately I've been so positive that I just take it home and never shut up about coffee haha. I know everyone's stressed, maybe I'm still in the mindset of highschool (not even a full year since I graduated yet!) where I except people in positions of authority to know everything and have almost infallable patience. That's not a realistic expectation in the real world oofda.

p.s. i haven't burnt the place. yet.

No problem! Please hold on to your sweet nature, make great connections with your customers, and remember to have fun! Our job is whatever you want it to be. If you want to come in and be miserable/happy, then that’s how it will be. Stay young while you can! And you can respect authority without always agreeing with everything they say/do :)

The keyword is yet. I’ve set many a parchment paper on fire. It’s always that darned cookie setting that seems to do it!

I opened a new sbux store and it took probably 3 months of working to really get settled and have things become “normal” Once you get to know your store and co workers it will get better.

I just left SB because of management and I was a AM. It's ridiculously wrong for them to take any of their stuff out on you. Just do one thing at a time and transfer out to the fish bowl asap.
