First day of orientation!!(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sosaidsmudge
Hey all, so I had an interview this pst Tuesday and got offered a job on the spot! Background went through the following day and I was called in to finalize paperwork Wednesday. Just went in today to do modules for about three hours. I got about part way through and got a store walkthrough with my SM. He is pretty relaxed on dress code and seems to connect with the partners on an amazing way. I got to cold bar modules and he came in and said enough of this you’ve been here too long. Let’s have a drink and chat a bit.
I have a job I set my own schedule for. What I went to college for. But y’all, I had time to do something part time and I’m a huge fan of what I’ve seen after four hours. I have the shots and flavor pumps for hard drinks down (including -1 on blonde espresso) but any tips? He told me my training starts a week from Monday which is when I’ll get my apron and stuff, and I can pick when to come in to finish my modules. I got my whole training schedule today (bar, CS, drive through etc already) and he’s confident a week is all it will take.
What should I really hammer down on to make sure I make the most of that week? I’m beyond excited and can’t wait to work with a team and do something different beyond structural work behind a computer all day.
I’ve seen a ton of threads on just starting out. And they’re great. But anything specific for me? I’m doing all my modules before any training. Who has a good cheat sheet for me?
Stoked to be a green bean. Thanks all.

One day at a time. Also, barring will likely be the last thing you are trained on. But every store is different. Starbucks is great about patiently training green beans. Don't stress, this job is awesome!

Definitely. It looks like I’ll do a day on CS and FR and then bar, with drivethrough and cold bar last. I’m stoked!

Make yourself an index card w size, shots and syrup pumps. That will help. And if you get trained in one week, you deserve medal! There's a lot to this job. You sound capable and enthusiastic so i know you will be fine!

That’s my fear. Manager says that’s all it will take but I’ve creeped in this thread and that makes me nervous. I took notes today and will study up. But that whole aerating the milk so and so seconds based on the drinks.....what?! I can memorize shots and pumps but that is scary. I saw the damn label machine moving today. Eeeeeesh

I’m relatively new at my store (started after thanksgiving), and I still ask questions. It never hurts to double check and triple check that you’re doing things correctly. When you get the opportunity to work on register, try to notice the side bar where all the ingredients are. It’ll tell you how many pumps and such are in the beverage. I’ve noticed partners who started back in June checking the drink just to make sure they’ve got it right.

Solid advice! I finish my modules tomorrow and I’m still own away with the restocking system. Mind. Blown. Would have never known before training. Wish you the best!

During my first month there were many times i was overwhelmed. Like another poster said there is a lot to learn. Be patient with yourself. You will mess up and thats okay. Everyone does. You will spill 5 pounds of beans on the floor and that's okay! You will get yelled at, but you will make it through the day. There are a lot of bad days, but there are even more great ones. Ive been with Starbucks 2 years and I've been a Shift most of that time. If you have any questions dont hesitate to message me. Good luck!

Thanks a ton! Even my store manager said today there are days he gets frustrated with that one customer, but it doesn’t matter in the long run.
I guess I’m just vibing on all of this coordination and preemptive support. So happy to be a partner and looking forward to it. I’ll definitely probably most likely for sure will be in touch! Thanks for your comments. Great this extends beyond my one store. What a community!

Thanks! I had some anxiety but it’s felt so wholesome. Shift managers were dodging me all day behind that computer in that tiny ass back room and invited me to a movie night. Just feels welcoming and worth it. I’m glad I got stopped at wet bar modules because those shot and flavor numbers don’t make sense haha. Just want to do well and have some fun.
