Keys to a Green Bean Schedule (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by TessaFink
Hello fellow baristas,

Green bean here. I have not started working just yet, but tomorrow morning I have orientation at 5:30am and then two weekends after I’ll be working Saturday and Sunday 4:15am-noon.

Any recommendations on how to get used to that early morning schedule? Specifically getting to bed at 7-8pm so I actually get good sleep.

I’ve always been a night owl and I have a hard time falling asleep before 11pm. I’m used to waking up around 6-7am.
This should be fun! Lol.

If you nap during the day, try not to. Take a sleepy tea like valerian or you can get pills as well. Also a sunrise simulating alarm clock is nice to help you wake up in the dark, you can get them on Amazon pretty cheap.
If you have a huge issue waking up keep some caffeine tablets and water by your bed, set an alarm for 30 minutes before you wanna wake up, take 1 or 2 of the caffeine pills then roll over and go back to sleep for your last half hour, when it’s time to wake up the caffeine will have kicked in and it should be easier to get up. 😊

Why do you advise against taking midday naps?

Just so you’ll be more tired and it’ll be easier to fall asleep earlier in the evening
Honestly though I sleep in a weird cycle where I sleep 6 hours at night then I open and have a long nap after my shift, it works for me but if you’re trying to sleep full 7-8hours at night then you probably won’t wanna take a nap since you’ll be trying to sleep earlier

I use an eye mask and ear plugs when I have to work early the next day. It really helps me get to sleep. Also, if you start to get more early morning shifts, your body should adjust and get used to being tired at an earlier hour.

Yeah. I’m still working during the weekdays 9-4. So I’m mostly doing early Starbucks shifts on the weekends. So it’s a weird bouncing between schedules.
