the sm that hired me is leaving and the new sm isn't following what she said (self.starbucksbaristas)

I got hired on the spot at my interview as barista, pending a background. Between the interview and my background check going through, I emailed the SM that hired me and let them know that I go to a quarter system university where we get new class schedules every 10/11 weeks. I emailed them because I couldn't remember if I brought it up in the interview or not. Either way, I wanted to make sure they knew it until I was officially offered / accepted the position. They told me they were glad I told them and they still wanted to hire me if the background check went through. Gladly I have that in writing, so it was agreed upon and expected that this wouldn't be an issue.

However, I didn't find out until my first day of training that this SM was leaving that week to go manage a new store and a few baristas / shifts are going with them. I asked my trainer if I was okay with my wacky schedule and the new SM coming. They advised me to just submit a change of availability form about a month an a half ahead.

Last week when the new SM officially started, they approached me about my availbity sheet. I was being scheduled 15 hours a week but I said on my sheet I could do 30 (big mistake on my part but I have to live with that) and they wanted to schedule me the full 30 hours. I said yes that is fine for now but in April when my schedule changes I'll have to move back to 15 hours per week. They were really surprised / taken aback when I said that my schedule will change and said "you can't change your availability until at least 6 months". I'm guessing the old SM didn't tell her about my case. I had to jump on DTO before we could finish the conversation.

Luckily my schedule won't change too much in April, just the amount of hours I can work. But I know in end of June (another 10 weeks after) my schedule is going to drastically change. This new SM has also been scheduling people out of their availability within the two weeks they have been here and I am scared about that happening with me. I cannot miss school for work and I don't want to put the other partners at a disadvantage.

How should I go about a conversation with the SM? I don't think my schedule changing ever 10 weeks is ideal for this store and don't want the SM to promise me something they can't keep. I also don't want to make their job harder, i would rather them find a person who can keep a steady schedule for 6 months and not put the store in a bad spot. However, with a handful of people leaving, they will already be short staffed. What should i do?

It’s not actually true that you can’t change your schedule more often than 6 months
I’m not sure what it says on the new availability sheet but on the old one it says right at the top of the page you have to update your availability every 6 months (as in minimum, not maximum)

yeah I am not totally sure, but that is what the new SM told me

Basically you can change your availability every 6 months no questions asked, and you're encouraged to keep it updated. If it's less than 6 months you should definitely go over changes with your SM directly. You can print your own copy from the hub and fill it out ahead of time. That said, there's a big difference between a 15 hour and 30 hour partner, and not just in terms of scheduling. It's usually a sign of someone not being terribly serious about the job, so just keep in mind that it can come across that way. It's also worth noting that 20 hours a week is the minimum to be eligible for most of the partner benefits, so if you can swing upping to that number it will probably go over better AND have more in it for you when you hit your 6 months and become eligible.
