Part 2. Decibel levels and working at Starbucks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by JustYogurt
What is the worst annoying loud sound working as a Barista at Starbucks? Does it bother your ears over the course of the day? Is it hard work, how long is the average day? Are any of the sounds harmful to the ears enough to bring to the attention on OSHA? I don't work there but I think anything that involves machinery to blend creates harmful decibels that degrade the inner ear. OSHA? Why or Why not? I have heard complaints from those who do work there. What say you?

Karen coming in with an 18 drink order and four travelers she wants ready in five minutes or it’s your job on the line unless you want to face the power of her “Waterfalls and Knives” haircut.

And definitely wearing the headset for drivethru can be really loud at times! some people drive loud trucks or the garbage truck comes and blasts all of our ears

to be honest the blenders don’t make that much noise. the loudest thing in my opinion is the coffee grinder and it’s only loud for like 5 seconds! i don’t know much about OSHA but i haven’t really been bothered by any loud noises

A person will need be continuously exposed to 90 decibels, A-weighted (dBA) over an 8 hour to be in violation of OSHA regulations. NIOSH says 85 dBA over 8 hours but that is still pretty loud as an average.

You can find out for yourself, NIOSH has a free $1 and it can give you a projected average based on NIOSH and OSHA standards.

Had installed a similar app already last year.

I don’t think there are any other apps that can measure noise exposure per NIOSH and OSHA standards, there is a difference between getting a snapshot of the sound level and getting a Time-Weight Average (TWA) as OSHA standard says!
