Manager (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by karolyzzle
My manager won’t let me get Sundays off. I asked and he completely shut me down saying that he asked everyone before they were hired if they could work on Sundays. However, things change and that was almost a year ago when I got hired. I need Sundays off to go to church and take a business class, but he is saying I am not allowed to. What do I do? Should I contact Starbucks HQ and tell them?

I believe if you need Sunday off for religious purposes I think I saw something at some point that they are required to follow it

Fill out a new availability form and make a copy. Give your manager your new form. If he continues to schedule you outside of your availability you should call partner resources. Call them anyway beforehand.

Unfortunately they are able to schedule you outside of that form as it is just a suggestion.

There is your availability and your preferred availability. If you say you can’t work sundays they have to schedule you around it.

Agree; your partner availability form should be updated at least every six months. Sooooo... ask your manager for a new one, and explain that you love being a partner and appreciate his understanding that your schedule has changed a bit. I will tell you that compromise goes a long way... for example, tell him you’ll work sundays another month (to give time to hire and train a new partner for Sunday as needed) and then you’d like the new availability to take effect.

You can print the partner availability form from the Hub (make sure it's the correct version i.e. US vs CAN). If it's been more than 6 months since the last one you filed you can make changes without any other discussion. If your scheduling changes drastically it can mean that your hours will be fewer unless/until others shift around since we're generally hired to cover particular days/dayparts. They cannot schedule you outside of your availability without direct confirmation. Schedules already posted may not be changed to reflect your new availability, so it may take 3 weeks to adjust.
