Should I be angry at anyone? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I was precloser for the day, we had one newbie on register, and one shift. Shift went to the back to do the pull, which took the entire shift. Came out infrequently for the rushes. Told me SPECIFICALLY not to preclose because we were understaffed. Then when I had one hour left, the closing shift comes in, and the mid-shift tells her "everythings good." Meanwhile, I haven't even started. Literally she didn't even have my back, and the closing shift had no empathy and made me scramble to get everything done. So I skipped my lunch because there was no way I could even possibly get it done. Yo, I'm lowkey pissed - but Idk who to be pissed off at. Like, maybe no one is in the wrong, and I'm just stressed, but I literally am about to cry because I feel stepped on.

You’re a precloser but the closing shift doesn’t get there until an hour before you leave? What’s a “preclose” shift at your store? Like the times bc that sounds weird to me. What time does the closing shift get there?

I work 12-7, she works 5:30-9 but had to come a little late this one time, that wasn’t the problem tho.. or maybe it was??

5:30-9 is such a short shift for a ssv I feel like? esp for the closer? at least from my perspective idk ab other stores. at my store the closing shifts come in at 3 or 4ish and we close at 10/10:30 and get out 30 min after that. the closing shift then has time to make sure everything gets done while they’re there. this includes the evening pull and counts as well as preclosing and actually closing. Does the midshift you were working with ever close? I feel like if it was the closer or someone who closes often would’ve realized that getting those tasks done at a certain time is important. I mean either way they should know but (me not knowing anything about these partners) maybe they didn’t realize how much stuff there is to do? Also, as a shift, I wouldn’t deny a partner a lunch bc we were behind on preclosing??

yeah it's short, but that's her availability. the midshift never closes, but im sure she has in her lifetime, she has been with starbucks a long time.

i wasn't denied the lunch, but i had one hour to do the entire preclose, and she told me i had to do everything so i gave up my lunch, how else was i going to finish

TBH you should do what you think needs doing in terms of closing tasks, provided you don't leave the greenbean unattended too long. If the shift doesn't agree with it you can talk to your SM about it if it becomes more of a problem. Closers don't get any flex or sympathy from other shifts, what we have to get done HAS to get done or we really can't leave regardless of what happens earlier in the day. Do not skip your lunch though. That's no good for you or anyone. If the closers have to stay longer, that's just kinda how it goes for us. Make sure you write a note though, you're allowed to write it in the book or leave one for the SM.
