Honestly same. How exactly are you supposed to "make customer connections" if all you're trying to do is rush them through the door?
crafty_0ne 6 points 4y ago
It's about alot of quick daily interactions as opposed to longer connections that might happen less frequently. For a lot of our regulars, it's as quick and simple as knowing their name and preferences. Do they always get a water with their order? We will have it ready for them without them asking. Do they want or not want a stopper? Do they prefer the long straw for their tall iced drink? Drink tray or no for their three drink order?

I think alot of of SM's forget that people come to the Dt for a reason, either speed or convenience. And we need to tailor our connections in ways that foster those two things. If they wanted to sit and have a minute long conversation, they would have come into the lobby. I also think that alot of of barista's hear the word "connection" and intimidate themselves into thinking we need to know every customers life history, family relationship s, work status, etc... And have a ten minute conversation with them every time. Most of the time, eye contact, a genuine smile and thank you while using the customers name is the only connection that the customer is looking for.

Hey, crafty\_0ne, just a quick heads-up:
**alot** is actually spelled **a lot**. You can remember it by **it is one lot, 'a lot'**.
Have a nice day!

I know, that bothered me, too! Not trying to be mean, I appreciated the over all message.

Love this response.

**Connection**: *a relationship in which a person, thing, or idea is linked or associated with something else.*

That's it. Especially in the morning, our customers are generally in a hurry to get to work. The best connection you can give them, and all they really want, is a FAST, pleasant experience. That's enough to make it memorable.
Your courteous efficiency is what will turn these morning rushers into regulars.

You'll be surprised at how many of our guests will--at another time--intentionally choose to come inside to make a genuine connection with you. Usually as a response to the way you always help them make it to work on time with their favorite drink.

During the morning rush, I like to find something I can use to quickly compliment my guests at the window.
It sounds superficial, but accessories like earrings, bracelets, necklaces, glasses, and things like hairstyle, makeup, nail polish, etc are great for this. Not only does it give these individuals a small little boost in the morning, it makes a **connection**.

Maybe they just started wearing their first pair of glasses, or they tried a new look with their makeup and they feel self-conscious. The next time they look in the mirror and see their face they may think "I was so nervous about going out like this, but it's been such a great day. I was on time to work, I got my Starbucks, and that sweet barista made my morning. I can't wait to go back." Boom. This person has **associated** their newfound confidence with you. You've made a connection.

It's all in the details, baby.
Something so small can so easily make a massive positive impact in someone's day.
That's why drive is my favorite place to be! <3

Definitely not just your store. If our times during peak are at :45 or over, our DM makes us text her an explanation as to why times were “so bad.” Honestly, DT times are most of the reason why this job is so stressful and it’s also what’s keeping me from making genuine connections because I’m constantly stressing about times!

Tack on this cloud macchiato messing up sequencing and it’s extra brutal on us at least. You can see the times building up more and more.

The cloud macchiato will be the death of my Starbucks career
guitarbr0 3 points 4y ago
and they didn't even prepare it for us at least at my store... only have one foam pitcher at the only starbucks in my town..........
sosaidsmudge 1 points 4y ago
Same here we only have one and no one knows when we will get another.

The cloud macchiato is no harder to make than a frap
geethanksmr 1 points 4y ago
Yeah but it makes sequencing 10x harder than it needs to be

Seeing all these posts about DTs makes me glad we don’t have one
katatat1 1 points 4y ago
Actually surprisingly I’ve never heard any of my managers mention the DT times. In fact when it’s very slow at night sometimes we’ll even forget to clear the order off of the screen all together and I’ve seen the average go up to 18 minutes! I find it odd that they don’t seem to care about it more..
