Good idea to work at Starbucks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by persephone976
I’m a student (21 F ) at university and I haven’t had a job before. I was wondering if it’s a good idea to try or even see if they’ll hire me without work experience. I’m doing a science degree at university and have volunteered with organizations. I don’t know if it would be a poor idea for my starting out job to be a barista ?

Starbucks is extremely flexible with hours, and would absolutely support you going to school.

You can always apply and see. Go sit and watch the store you would apply to and see if it is something you think you could do,especially at peak times. We always say we're taking applications but you could still ask the manager if they're looking to hire. Also, look at your schedule, if you have classes sporadically throughout the day and don't have a big enough chunk of time to go in to work then that could hinder your ability to get a job as well. Good luck!

The only advice I have is to put similar, if not the same, values that Starbucks has on your resume. My manager doesn’t care how well you look, how much experience you have, or how old you are. If she doesn’t see Starbucks values on your resume right away she will throw it in the trash.

Honestly if they pay close to minimum wage in your area it might be worth it to get a different job. Working at Starbucks is exhausting and there are other minimum wage jobs that will leave you with more energy to work on school work.

Starbucks hires high school students ( within the regulation of state labor laws ) you just need to be able to learn and you should be fine!

I was in a similar boat to you. Work experience isn't an issue it's about drive and work ethic. Most managers understand that Starbucks is going to be a lot of folks first job. So apply and see. And keep checking on the status of your application. A lot of employers like to see that sort of enthusiasm toward getting the job.
