Hello! I worked at Starbucks for 5 years, about 10 years ago. (I was trained on a manual machine where we ground the beans, pulled & timed our own shots, if that gives you any idea about how long ago it was.)
Got married, went to a technical school and joined the health care field & have been a surgical tech for about the last 9 years.
If you haven’t heard about the burnout situation in healthcare, it’s very real & I have it.
I’m seriously considering leaving & going back to Starbucks to take advantage of the benefits- college, healthcare (mine doesn’t cover infertility treatments) etc.
I was a shift supervisor at 3/4 of the stores I worked at & got the 5-star pin/award on multiple occasions. I generally enjoyed working there & took a lot of the values learned & implemented them in my healthcare career.
My questions/concerns are: pay, cost of benefits, and shifts (length of, nights, weekends etc.) I do 3 12 hour shifts, now. (When I left SBux my manager was keeping everyone under 40 hours. Is that still a thing?)
Any input would be appreciated!

Pay= depends on your area. If minimum wage is low that means your pay won't be much better. Benefits= 401k is really good. 6wks paid maternity leave (if entered correctly), 30%off instore,no uniforms now, perk center, free counseling, insurance depends on your area but is average. Hours=Be your managers favorite Day to day operations= 🤯🔫 Manager turn over rate is ridiculous. I have had 5 managers in the span of 1.5 years.

If you do come back you’ll be in for a shock. The company has changed more than you can imagine. Let’s just say, besides the first sip, coffee tastings are no longer part of training! 😝

I’m a returning partner (134****). I decided to apply after a 10 year nannying career. I moved to a region where families simply don’t need in-home childcare, and I remembered Starbucks offering benefits. When I found out they also offer tuition reimbursement, I felt like it was the best choice for me.
The reimbursement goes something like this: you apply to ASU and fill out a FAFSA as you normally would. Once you’re eligible for the reimbursement (120 hours within 3 months), then the funds kick in for ASU. There’s actually two parts to the reimbursement. The first part is technically a scholarship that covers 42% of your tuition. After that, any other scholarships or grants that the FAFSA found are applied. Finally, Starbucks reimburses you for the whatever balance remains. You also have to be an appropriate candidate for the program. Decent academic standing and you may not already possess a bachelors degree.
I hope that makes sense.

I'm a returning partner after an 8 year break (I'm a 160xxxx). I had spent four years just about with the company prior and came from an admin job I was totally burned out on. The thing is... The culture is different now. But I am absolutely taking advantage of the school benefits. Going to school was the entire reason for my return - I had no idea until I applied that Starbucks offers the whole ASU thing. It was like the universe was screaming, "This is where you need to be!!" In short - you probably know what to expect. Except think a more fast food type environment now. Luckily my coworkers are awesome and this is a job where you can leave work at work. It's not glamorous and the pay is small, but for ME... everything else offered is making this work for me. Hope this helps you some!

I’m a 160 (or 163? 🤔) partner too! Question about the ASU thing- is it reimbursement? As in, I still have to pay several hundreds of dollars up front?
When you started back did the start you back at the bottom of the pay grade, or did you get any extra for prior experience?

It IS reimbursement. You do have to pay up front, but they reimburse you right to your paycheck so at least that part is simple. And yeah... Unfortunately they start you right back at the bottom for pay. That part obviously sucks, but really I'm so excited to get a mostly free education I'll look past it. My boyfriend also works at Boeing and makes pretty decent money so I'm super fortunate that I have someone who can help with other life expenses for now.

Depends on where you’re at for your rate of pay. California for a shift in Bay Area is $18.32 and most stores you have to work an average of 30 hours. To be eligible for benefits you must be working there for at least 3 months. Then you only have to work 23 hours or so to be eligible for benefits.

I’m making $18.50 now as a surgical tech. I’m in the south, minimum wage is 8.53 in my city. Glassdoor/indeed has shift supervisors as $11 for my area. Looking at supplementing income by either staying PRN at the hospital, or picking up a delivery/lab job a family friend has available.
