So yesterday, Sunday, we were insanely busy per usual. At one point out dt line wrapped the store twice and cafe line was out the door. One lady had a 6 drink order, one of which was iced coffee. At the hand off she asked me to just put 8 pumps classic and she'd do cream on her own. By the time I got to her drink i realized we had no iced coffee so i politely told her it would be a few more minutes. Iced coffee comes, 8 pumps classic, pour it and hand it off and she said wheres my cream, um sorry I thought you said you wanted to do it yourself. So I go to add cream and stir it and she scream AH AH AH like I'm a dog, says it won't taste the same and I need to remake it. Mind you theres probably 35-40 people in the store it was insane. She proceeds to engage another customer and tell him how stupid I am! I turned to her and said maam theres absolutely no reason for you to call me stupid, I'll happily remake your drink but I was only making it the way you asked me to. What would yall have done? I've only been with Starbucks about 5 or 6 months so I didnt want to go too far but inside i wanted to jump across the counter and smack her. How fucking rude and ignorant.

You acted way more calmly than I would lol

Ah ah ah, Karen, would you like to make your six drink order?

You handled it just fine, I think. I mean, corporate would have had you apologizing to her, but as we all know that never really works anyway so why bother to put yourself through that? Next time though (I really hope you don't see her again, but in case there is a next time) hand her a cream pitcher and sweetly remind her that she SAID she wanted to do it herself.

Screw corporate. If I was your SM, i'd back you up

It took everything in me not to lose it. My shift had my back though 100% and the customer she was talking to told her she was out of line

Damn. As a shift, and when this happened to my barista, I have asked someone like this to leave. In the “corporate approved” way. (“Excuse me but if you continue to speak to my partners that way, I will have to ask you to leave”) you did the right thing, OP. Good on you.

My go-to move is to dump the drink making full eye contact. Slowly.

I looked her in the eyes as I dumped it but I definitely dumped it with an attitude and very fast haha

Hah... hah hah.. the amount of customers I’ve had just like that... ahhh love the Starbucks experience._. the greatest is when they write a bad yelp review to make themselves feel satisfied >.>

My classic move is to hand them a short cup of cream or the half and half carafe and smile and say something along the lines of “here I’ll let you pour it yourself because no one knows your drink better than you do!”
