Frappuccino with light ice?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SparklesOnMars
What is the best way to compensate for light ice when making a Frappuccino? I’m relatively new and don’t have any experience on bar except jumping in to help here and there.
I had a customer order a coffee frap with light ice and only one pump of base, and the front bar barista was slammed so I jumped in to make it. I asked another barista and she said don’t add anything extra, just do less ice. I did that and it didn’t fill the cup all the way, so I asked someone else and they said add more milk and blend it again. I did that but the customer wasn’t happy and said it didn’t taste right (and asked if I added “the brown stuff”). I assured her I did and let her know I added more milk to compensate for the light ice but she was in a hurry and didn’t want it remade so we gave her a refund. I wanna know what I can do in the future to make sure light ice doesn’t affect the taste of the drink.
**UPDATE** The same lady came in today and ordered a grande espresso frap with light ice and one less pump of base. She was watching my co-worker make it like a hawk with a horrible expression on her face, and kept telling me she saw her do this and that wrong (she wasn’t). I asked her if she wanted it remade, and she said yes. I let my coworker know, and she just kept watching and said it didn’t look right and asked for a refund without even tasting it 🙄 And the whole time she was complaining saying we got it wrong last time too and how hard could it be 😑.

Ice is essential to a Frappuccino. There is no standard way to make a light ice Frappuccino. You can add more milk, but it will change the consistency.

I’m here for the comments honestly.
We have a reg who orders a venti green tea frap and he wants about a tall scoop of ice or so, but is super pissed when it doesn’t fill the cup to the top now and asks it to be remade/fixed somehow.
Like, at first he had accepted that his six modifier drink was what it was, but he watches us like a hawk when we make it and is angry that we can’t bend physics to make less ingredients fill the same space.

I don’t understand people 🙄 Like, I think the people who get paid to make the drinks know how it works better than you do sir, lol

Exactly. He’s a turd. We’ve tried to explain that less ingredients = less end result, and that the ice makes a bulk of the drink’s mass. We tried making him a iced green tea latte on the house with all his equivalent modifiers to see if it made him happier and nope. He’d rather have something to rant about I guess...

I would try to upsell that particular customer on an iced latte instead. Some customers say they want one thing, when they really want something else. (because of a regional convenience store chain, I have to spend a lot of time asking customers if they really want a latte when they say cappuccino)

I always just add milk to a little above the line instead of right at it

Thanks for all the help guys! I guess if I were to get the same order again I’d add another pump of frap roast along with the extra milk so the flavor doesn’t get too diluted. I did forget to mention it was also with almond milk instead of whole, which has a stronger flavor that might’ve messed with things by adding extra as well.
