I'm sure if you let your manager know they will be reasonable.

Hey, thanks for your quick response. My other manager didn’t care, she says I’ll be written up for the next 3 weeks. She said “it wouldn’t be fair to other employees who are late” if they helped me and changed my schedule, but it’s not like I’m just running late for no reason.
Also I am just trying to be a good employee and responsible.

That's stupid.
milkandcookiesplease3 points4y ago
Yup. Now I will be written up for the next 3 weeks, should I just quit?

I would if the management is like that. But I'm not in your shoes and idk how your life is going. I would look for a second job and then put in ur 2 weeks

Do you mean other manager like shift supervisor? Only store managers can write you up.

Thanks for clarifying, that’s good to know!!

Ever since a 2014 NYT article got Starbucks a ton of bad press, the company has walked on eggshells around issues like this. Check out this link for a quick summary: https://money.cnn.com/2014/08/14/news/companies/starbucks-schedule-changes/index.html. A conversation with your DM (or HR, should the DM be dumb enough to be unresponsive) should solve the issue. Trust me, it's your manager who will be in hot water, not you.

Do you think your manager will help you out when they get back from vacation? Obviously being written up for the next 3 weeks isn’t ideal, but if you think they’d be willing to work with you it might be worth staying. Maybe see if you can switch a few of the shifts with someone else so it isn’t every single shift you’re late for? Hope it all works out for you! Pretty stupid they won’t work with you since it’s out of your control!

Yeah, no one else wants to come in at 6am and I don’t blame them 😂
Nope, not willing to work with me.
This is only my third week there.
My first week my Barista trainer (who was later fired) told me he hated all white people and white people should die
So yes it’s been lovely.

If you want this job then I’d say talk to your district manager. But your management at that store don’t seem very understanding and probably won’t support you even if you stayed. If you live in an area with more than one starbucks, you can try to finesse your way through this ordeal and make a transfer to a different store. But if you’re good with finding another job, then put in your two weeks and do that. When you start your new job, try to make it very clear in your interview that you have to take the bus to work and that it’s usually delayed so [here are your available hours] that you have confidence in that you can get to work and leave on time. I’m not sure if you’ve already tried doing that and it’s just management’s fault, but it would be ideal if you didn’t have to deal with this again at your new job. I really hope things go well for you, sorry to hear that your experience wasn’t great

Thanks. The problem is that transportation is delayed at 5am, during “normal” times it usually runs regularly.
