Bad attitudes (self.starbucksbaristas)

Please help, I’ve been working at starbucks for almost 4 months now, I’m always very nice to customers but the second they’re rude to me I get very frustrated. I try not to let it show but 70% of the time I just act hostile and it upsets me. How do I change this? How do I deal with rude customers so I don’t get in trouble. I had a customer call me a fucking idiot during a rush because the person on reg didn’t give me his coffee with an add shot

Be even nicer. Be so nice it hurts. This will do one of ~~two~~ three things.

1. They will realize their jerkish attitude and alter it. (Least likely, almost didn't add this one. But it does *occasionally* actually happen.)
2. They will eventually leave and you won't have to deal with them anymore today, and can encourage someone else to deal with them next time instead of you.
3. (The most satisfying one imo.) They will become *visibly frustrated* that you are being nicer, rather than being rude in reply to their rudeness, and will just piss themselves off. Which is hilarious to see and well worth the trouble of making yourself be polite in the face of rudeness.

I like to do this thing where I am just SO FUCKING PLEASANT AND NICE that it has a slight undertone of cartoon sarcasm, so it’ll either fly over their heads as corporate bs or it’ll make them pissed

Love that.

Number 3 really is the best. A guy called my supervisor essentially for not giving him the reaction he wanted.

This.

I had a lady come in yesterday, one of the nastiest I ever met. When I was nice to her she looked shocked, I think probably no one else has ever been nice to her.

I know this is going to sound shocking but some people are actually totally unaware of how they behave and don’t understand the way others react to them. So if you’re nice to them, it confuses them and sometimes makes them realize they’re being mean

I know it sounds weird but it’s worked
