All night/ cleaning play barista(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hexhawken
So I am a closer/cleaning play barista and it seems to me the most of the work get shoved on my night crew and on my cleaning play crew. I'm just trying to understand if it is everywhere this is happening or if my store manager is just overloading us

Our store is awful to the closers, they always complain about little things, and for some reason they say we don’t vacuum out the hoppers every night when I know we do. The clean play sucks, and we’re usually there until 11 and we hardly do anything from the book cause of how much there is. You got this though- closers FTW!

I'm a closer for my store, and am also scheduled for every single clean play ever (you say you're available for it one time and all of a sudden your manager schedules you for every single one). It's not uncommon during our clean plays to actually do all the cleaning tasks that should have been done during the day. Ovens, urns, floors, CBS, you name it, we've had to do it. Don't even talk to me about the 4 hours of dishes we've had to do. AND STILL the morning and mid partners complain that something wasn't done the night before, disregarding the fact that we always stay overtime (I've never gotten out half an our after closing the store) to finish everything.

Yeah its weakly but ever Sunday night 9 to 1130 we are expected to clean the entire store. It the same 3 people every week and we are payed normal and disrespected by our coworkers

Night crew gets the short end of the stick. Been working nights exclusively for a year, and morning crew has a tendency to just not do things claiming they dont have time for it. Sometimes its true sometimes it isnt. Not much you can do about it honestly.

Tbh we've tried to go to our store manager... he is more worried about selling advocare then the store. We had a store manager come in a here our water system rattling and told me that it gonna brake sooner than latter. While doing dishes if some one flushes a toilet there is a sound that that's a deep rumbling almost like a growl that has been getting louder. today we found a paper cube with I'm bored written on it. We have 4 people including my self that practically kill our selves for this store was 6 but two left and two more are about to leave by the end of may which leave myself in one other I love working for Starbucks but I dont think I can carry a store I barely sleep because I'm so stressed out from work

Honestly, man, if it’s that bad and that stressful for you at your current store i would transfer.

The clean play should just be weekly specific tasks not daily normal tasks. There’s pages in the daily record book which outline what should be done that night but your store manager night have minor adjustments.

I'm at a 24 hour store, and the number of times I've heard "oh, they can do it on the overnight" infuriates me. I've worked every day part and the mornings and afternoons, as busy as they are, absolutely can accomplish more if they're using cards. Night shifts have our own crap to do 😅 so it sounds like your store is not using the Clean, Safe, Ready cards appropriately and that may be something to make a note of

It SHOULD be a different set of people each week... Though, I do know for a fact that when making schedules, consistency is encouraged. The same three people doing clean plays each week is probably because the schedule isn't changed up. If you feel this way, you should talk to your manager and suggest making it a store-wide commitment where it changes up each week.
Also, I feel like it depends what night the clean play night is on. For our store, Sundays are the BUSIEST day of the week, so it's always a huge struggle to get out by 10:30pm each Sunday... We decided as a store it'd be on a slower weekday so that normal nightly tasks can be done at 10:30pm and clean play is ensured.
Tasks for clean play are outlined in the daily records book that not only shifts and managers have access to; baristas have every right to be looking in there and seeing what needs to be done. It's also common for one extra task to be on the clean play that's outside of the daily records book if something needs a little extra lovin'. Hope this helps!

That is helpful thank you it just upsets me to know I'm expected to do all for how little I actually make not one Sunday the past Month have we gotten out before 12

Do they often leave passive aggressive notes about the close in your group chat and/or DRB? I can't stress it enough; I've had more than one SM/ASM tell me they encourage the consistency of the same shifts each week if it's possible. It used to happen a few time, but I'd usually smack back in my management group that passive aggressive notes don't get us anywhere, especially with our baristas.
There might be a chance that your manager is just going about it ignorantly-- you and your other co-workers deserve a break too! :(

See my store use to do that and I was the only barista trained besides the sm and the other barista just goofed off and told inappropriate comments and stories as I bussed my ass so we could go on somewhat on time
