Starting training, any pointers? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by tara_bytes
I believe myself to be a somewhat fast learner, and I'm eager to start. Is there anything I might need to know that could make things go more smoothly for the person training me? Other than being prompt, of course

Ask a TON of questions!! I’m a trainer and it makes everything so much easier for me and for my trainees. Our whole job is to answer all of your questions and make sure you’re comfortable with everything! Taking notes if that helps you is ok too. For a few of my trainees who needed it, I wrote out a chart right on the espresso machine with each cup size, how many shots of espresso, and how many pumps of syrup the get.

My next training day is drinks, and my trainer has been super helpful and understanding, so I think I'll bring out my notepad. It would help me alot, and it great to know that it is welcomed. Thank you!

Repetition. Repetition. Repetition. As well as keeping the recipe cards handy and referring to them often.

Glad to know I'll be getting something to memorize with. I'll make sure to practice. Thank you!

Try looking up quizlets. Also when practicing for drinks you should practice the sequence too on paper. So like first start by steaming the milk. Cue shots. Pump syrup. Catch shots.

That’s how I learned to do drinks. My first few days on bar I was like what do I even start with should I cue the shots first or should I steam the milk. Granted, I did take the modules; my stores computer was so old and slow that I couldn’t even remember what I learned on the computer.

Take notes when you’re takin the online training.

When you get your free drinks for work, don’t be a mess like me. Avoid drinking Frappuccinos ever time first. The sugar and dairy messed me up so much and apparently that’s what happened to most of the new hires at my job

Great tip. I was actually wondering if there were online quizes for this stuff. I could really improve with that type of practice. Thank you! I'll keep in mind what I'll be making for myself as well.
Quick question: Thoughts on making a matcha latte for myself?
Frenchtsaot3211 3 points 4y ago
Good luck!! You can do itttt! Once you get over the first learning curve it will get better! Promise!

Fuck up the matcha lattes!! I like to make mine with soy personally. But what was your question specifically about matcha lattes?
tara_bytes [OP] 1 points 4y ago
Thank yoou! I'm going to really go at it here and do my best even though honestly I am pretty nervous.
LMAO. Yeah I was just wondering if it is worth it to make a matcha latte for myself (iced) for my break?
Frenchtsaot3211 3 points 4y ago
I was extremely nervous too. I was on bar making drinks with my supervisor one time and she had to give me a pep talk because I was so nervous. From that day on I was like okay I am going to start coming prepared and pumped for shift, or I’ll get ripped apart.

Yeah it’s honestly worth makin yourself a drink for breaks. Get all the money you can out of starbucks. They make thousands a day so. Is milk it! Alsoooo, idk how much your store let’s people know about marking out on coffee beans. You get one free bag of coffee a week. You can even grind it yourself. I got myself some Pike and Blonde roast my first weeks there. Blonde is really good, it’s so smooth and probably my favorite roast so far from Starbs. The cool thing was that I was asking all my coffee drinking friends if they liked coffee and got them some ground coffee and it was the best thing. They were all so happy!

I second the asking questions!! When I first started I was worried that I would seem dumb or annoying for asking so many questions, but no one made me feel like that!! My manager was the only one who would never answer a question (thought that I would learn better if I just figured it out myself) so hopefully yours is a little more helpful than that 😂

Yes! I feel like I've felt this exact same way in my other endeavors. Thank you for the tip.

Try to remember the number of pumps and shots go in iced and hot drinks. It helps and most other drinks follow this pattern. Also when on register, it’ll also show you the number of shots, syrup, and wether or not it comes with whip and such. Don’t forget to always ask questions!
