Probably the most important lesson early on is to remember your cup sizes as soon as possible. It will help to avoid making mistakes. Another tip is to recognize the different names for coffee. Examples include "drip coffee" which is just regular coffee. "House coffee" same. "Veranda" is blonde roast. "Vienese" is dark roast. "Black eye" is two shots of espresso added to their cup of coffee. "Red eye" is just one added shot to their coffee. I'm sure I missed a few more but other baristas can fill you in as you go along. It's very likely that they'll have you in the front register for your first month or so. Hope this helps

Don't be afraid to tell your shift you feel overwhelmed or ask for help. Especially if you have a DT store, there can be a lot of information and activity going in that can get to be too much, and I've seen a lot of green beans freeze up and stop asking questions because they feel annoying. It's so much easier to answer questions (even if you've asked how long white mocha is good for 5 times) than to go back and fix things. And if you find yourself standing around, ask what you can do. It's a good way to find your rhythm and make a good impression on your coworkers. Otherwise, smile, get to know the regulars at your store, and enjoy the start of an awesome job :)

Don't take anything a customer says personally. People can be really rude but know it isn't about you and you'll be okay!

There is a lot to remember. Just take your time but try to retain what you learn. It will take a while. You got this.

Just do your best not to stress! Yes it gets crazy but we are all there and willing to help each other through the storm! It's. Just. Coffee!
