Is it worth is to become a shift?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by fairygames34
My manager mentioned that they'd like to start training my soon as a shift, if that's something I'd like, and I'm trying to figure out if it really is. I have some of my own pros and cons based on my own store, but are there any shifts out there who have yays or nays regarding becoming a shift?

I overall enjoy being a shift. I’ve only been one since August, all of my baristas prefer to work with me and overall they keep a really happy demeanor which helps me stay positive and on track. Sometimes I do feel like a babysitter to a bunch of college kids. I also don’t plan on leaving Starbucks because I do enjoy the work and my store

If your passionate about Starbucks and you have a solid team, there's no reason not to move up if your SM thinks you'd be good for it. It is obviously a bit more responsibilities and stress, but I think it's pretty rewarding, more than just the pay raise

I feel like it really depends on the store. How the manager sort of takes care of their shifts really does affect the experience that you get. To some degree, I feel that being a shift is a bit easier than being a barista. I think being a shift is worth it though if you feel that your store is really close. It definitely builds your skills of patience, leadership, and understanding. My favorite thing about being a shift was definitely being able to support my baristas and make them feel appreciated. If you present to your baristas with a positive and calm energy, the entire floor will feed off of that energy. I learned so much as a shift supervisor. I would highly recommend it if you think you want something new within Starbucks.
