Hi! I'm gonna start working at Starbucks soon and I was wondering, would I be doing all tasks immediately? Or would I start by doing something simple and move my way up? Or maybe it depends on the manager? Thanks in advance

It’ll depend on you manager but typically you get trained on pretty much everything. You’ll likely only get put into positions that you’re comfortable with after training as you practice the rest.
For the most part at my store new partners will work register and practice bar during slower times.

Alright! Thank you for your reply

Don’t be afraid to ask if you can practice on a specific position (i.e, bar) when you start your shift! Your shift supervisor will be able to find time for you to practice what you need, and switch it up without having you totally overwhelmed :) Always speak up!

Thank you so much :D hopefully I'll get the hang of it quickly and not feel too overwhelmed

Nobody expects you to know everything all at once, let alone be good at it. It’s a lot at first, and everyone learns differently and at a different pace so your fellow partners should be patient and always willing to help you. Be proactive, bring your best energy, and remember it’s just coffee. No one is going to die if you make a mistake ;)

First they should put you on the computer for training if they do that at your store. I believe a whole shift is dedicated to that if not it may take 1-2 hours, maybe less. Then they move you to learning the pos- writing cups, taking orders. They’ll walk you through how to work the mastrena and steaming equipment. You should also be taught a few basic drinks such as teas, caramel macchiato, and lates. My store doesn’t have mobile orders or drive thru so I can’t help you there. I hope this sort of helps? Congrats on the new job!

It definitely helps, thank you so much!

I did almost all of my computer stuff over a day and a half. Then the rest of my training was on register, drive, and bar. It was all brief, just about a day on each with my trainer. Then for my first week alone my manager had me only on register, second week was all drive, and third was all bar. I liked it that way, I felt more familiar with making drinks after typing them in all of the time!

Awesome thank you! One more thing, if you have the time: my orientation day is tomorrow. Do I have to go in a specific type of outfit? Like without patterns and no bright colors? Or is that just for when I actually start on the job?

Oh, we also went over other stuff like how to make certain things like mocha, lemonade, stuff like that. That was during one of my computer training days just to get a break from sitting the whole time. And when I went in for orientation, or onboarding my manager called it, I just wore dark jeans and a sweater. I don't think it has to follow the dress code to a T. I wanted to look presentable but nothing too fancy lol another girl came in after me for onboarding and she had a bright yellow blazer on and my manager seemed fine with it!
