Hey guys! I’m new to this community and being a barista. I’ve been working for a few months now and have been trying to figure out how to avoid neck chafing from the apron. I’ve tried collared shirts and it still irritates my neck. I’ve been experimenting with talc powder, Vaseline, coconut oil, deodorant, etc. and still getting “apron burn.” I don’t know if it’s my skin or if I’m just doing something wrong but I need help. Thanks in advance!

Have your straps a little loser and tie the waist ties tight so that the neck straps aren't the things holding the apron up

I tried this today at work and it helped a bit. I noticed that my other co-workers actually double tied their strings so that the apron stays in place and is loose around. Thanks for the tip!

Also, the more you have in your pockets the more it can put pressure on your neck. I tend to only carry pens, as a shift I keep the keys in my pocket.

That’s a good tip right there too. I noticed that most of my partners tend to only carry sharpies that way it doesn’t pull it down.

my aprons have little plastic pieces on the adjuster that poke me and cause chafing, so i just flip the strap around so the plastic pieces don’t dig in my neck. you may also need to tighten or loosen it to where it doesn’t move and rub your skin

The plastic piece doesn’t bother me that much, it’s the fabric itself that rubs and irritates my neck haha. But yes, I’ve also loosened the strap + thing the apron tighter helped a lot.

I’ve been wearing button up shirts since they have the collars on them but it still keep irritating my neck. I was so desperate to find another solution

Really? That’s awesome. And yes, tying it tighter + looser strap around the neck helped a lot these couple of days

try tucking the top apron strap under the collar of your button up so it doesn’t touch your skin at all!
