Has anyone else completely lost faith in Starbucks?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BellyUpBarista
So after about 4 years of really enjoying my job with the company, things took a dark turn last year and have gotten steadily worse. Trying to speak to anyone about it is impossible as the business and peoples job roles are apparently changing weekly. Starbucks has massively changed and I don't like it. Its no longer the company I signed up for and I was wondering how many people felt the same? I really do feel like they went from good to very bad after Jan 2018.

I've been with the company for six years. A shift for five I've been through five managers, and countless baristas. There's always been up and downs but nothing lower than this. My store is a high volume drive thru store right off the interstate and right next to hospital, mall, and movie theater. A huge issue with us is staffing. We are busy from the time we open at 5am to when we close at 11 and it's like we are still operating with the same number if not fewer baristas than we were back then. The last few hours used to be so much slower and there was time to clean and close properly and now my baristas end up staying hours later, still having a terrible close, so I frequently have to finish closing before I open the doors. A lot of this has to do with our high turnover rate and training too. There's a call out almost every day, it's exhausting. I've never seen someone work as hard as my current manager, but he hasnt even had a real opportuniy to show what he's capable of because he has to be floor coverage more than he should. The calling out creates animosity between the team and apparently it's really difficult to fire someone at Starbucks. So we're stuck with some people who don't give a shit. I just feel really defeated but deep down I still like my job. I'm working on my development to be an ASM and I figure if I can't do it better and make a difference it's time to move on. We'll see.

I know for me, there’s been multiple times where it’s been fantastic and then really horrible for months, I just now got out of a rough patch of trying to prove myself to everyone..whatever’s going on you can talk to me if you want

The company has just done a full 180. It might be different outside of EMEA, but here it sucks. Lack of support and development, and the store managers seem to be decision makers, some acting really innapropriatley, and this is affecting the Baristas quite heavily. Their superiors are unwilling to take action and this has knock on effects. If you care about customers over cash then you will be pushed out... Like me.

I'll be at 7 years in July. I'm super jaded by this point and just can't seem to tolerate any bullshit (like...scheduling two people for afternoon peak constantly, even though EVERYONE has brought up that this is an issue.) When minimum went up, I found out that I was now making the same as a new shift, because for some reason they adjusted their pay, but not the pay of myself and several other long-term partners. We just had a 10 year partner leave because of this. I just get a really strong sense that the company no longer values experience, or quality, and is more interested in just pumping out as many drinks as possible while paying as few partners as possible. I used to love this job, but I'm finding that I dread coming to work almost every day now. Until I can find something that offers similar health benefits, though, I'm stuck.

I’m a three year partner, and my SM is someone I love dearly. He does everything he can for us and the team is working hard but the company just can’t compete. We lose so many good workers to better paying places. Labor never works the way it should and customers are becoming more entitled. This is my second store (third if you count a license store) and my experience went downhill before I got here but it’s been the same. I’m tired of hearing about “Starbucks one of the greatest places to work” or “Starbucks and all its perks.” Yeah, I’m a student and free Spotify saves me $5/month. Yay. Had a guy ask me one day if I knew anyone who tried to work at bux for SCAP. Honest answer: no, I know one person who did it because she could.
